Valheim Server Setup

Valheim dedicated servers let you and your friends explore and build together even when you're offline. This guide covers world configuration, passwords, and modding with BepInEx.

1. Create a new server on NovaStack and select Valheim.
2. A Scout plan (4 GB RAM) works well for up to 10 players.
3. In the Startup tab, configure:
   • Server Name — displayed in the server browser.
   • World Name — the save file name.
   • Password — minimum 5 characters, required for all dedicated servers.
   • Public — set to 1 to list in the community browser.

Players can connect in two ways:

• Server browser — search for your server name in-game (may take a few minutes to appear).
• Direct connect — press F2 or use Steam → View → Servers → add your IP:port (default port 2456).

The server password is required to join.

1. Download the BepInExPack Valheim package from Thunderstore and unzip it.
2. Open the Files tab (File Manager) and upload the BepInEx files to your server root directory (there is no one-click install button).
3. Restart the server.
4. Download mods from Thunderstore or Nexus Mods.
5. Upload mod DLL files to /BepInEx/plugins/.
6. Restart again.

Important: All players need the same mods installed on their client for multiplayer compatibility.
